Holidays in Cambodia? Tom Vater´s new German-language guide to Angkor published 4.1.2011

My new guide to the ruins of Angkor in Cambodia is published on the 4th of January 2011, by Germany`s largest independent travel publisher Reise Know How.

The book contains almost a hundred color images by photographer Aroon Thaewchatturat, as well as maps of all the temples, a fold-out plan of the Angkor Archaeological Park and the boom town of Siem Reap, which serves the temples with countless hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, casinos and supermarkets. Detroit photographer Scott Nicholson also contributed a few images and ideas.

Readers are introduced to the historical background of the Angkor Empire and the effects of development and tourism today (Angkor is currently one of the world´s most overrun tourist sites and the Cambodian government makes no effort to create a sustainable industry, but the book gives handy tips on how to avoid the worst of the crowds), but for the most part, the book should serve as a handy and compact guide to the ruins and contains everything to make the stay in Siem Reap as stress-free and enjoyable as possible, including information for travelers with children, photography tips, exotic food tips, advice for gay and lesbian travelers and a phrase book.

And it fits into your ass pocket!
