Angkor by Bicycle for Silverkris (Singapore Inflight)
I was recently in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on assignment for Silverkris Magazine (Singapore Inflight). Every year the roads around the Angkor temples are becoming more clogged with traffic, which, as many studies have shown, slowly destroys the foundations of these magnificent monuments. To escape traffic fumes and crowds, some tourists opt for the humble bicycle to see Angkor and I was really positively surprised how much difference it makes to cycle around the Angkor Archaeological Park. Despite having spent weeks around the temples in the past decade, I had never been to some of the locations our tour with Grasshopper Adventures took us to.
Aroon Thaewchatturat took the pictures, I include some here that did not run in the Silverkris piece – a cocktail at retrofitted Siem Reap bar Miss Wong, afternoon tea at the Hotel de la Paix, dried snake salad at Aha Restaurant and a few shots from the temples with Grasshoppers supremo and untiring cycle tour coordinator Maridikounthy Phouek posing in front of Angkor Wat.
